Will Firefox support applications

WebExtensions allow to develop crossbrowser extensions and most of chrome-based extensions can be ported for Firefox.
Will Firefox support applications? If yes, when? As Mozilla won’t support XUL extensions, applications can partly replace them.

Sad to hear. Sometimes need more functions then just extensions functions.
I like XUL + XPCOM, It really extended browser functions.
