[Support] uBlock Origin

Yes, there is a better solution: submit a filter issue report to one of these:

Can you submit a formal issue for this? Otherwise I will just forget about it, I don’t always have the time to look right into it: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/issues.

There is no limit. Without any specifics, I can’t provide any meaningful answer. There is always a good explanation, but it can’t be provided if I cannot investigate, and I can’t investigate if I am not given any details about how to reproduce your case.

Also, this: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Element-picker#the-removed-element-reappears-when-you-reload-the-page.

All filter issues need to be reported to filter list maintainers, that’s the way filter lists are built, through reporting of issues by users:

Yes, CSS selector syntax allows that, try:

Of course. The quick guide which you were asked to read when you checked “I am an advanced user” setting explains it: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Dynamic-filtering:-quick-guide.

Thank you so much!

It is only my fault… I noticed having installed

uBlock (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock/)

instead of

uBlockOrigin – (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/)

Switched to your fork (uBlockOrigin), and indeed, the issue is completely gone

Again thank you, Happy Weekend!

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. Attached is a screenshot of what I see when I click Tools - Add-ons. It says uBlock Origin by Raymond Hillhttps://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/ (?).

Is it possible to create a cosmetic filter to select only the text nodes in this block?

<div class="timeline">
    <a class="A">+2</a>
    <a class="A">+4</a>
    <a class="A">+9</a>
    <a class="A">+4</a>
    <a class="A">+7</a>
    <a class="B">-10</a>
    <a class="A">+7</a>
    <a class="B">-6</a>
    <a class="A">+7</a>
    <a class="B">-14</a>
    <a class="B">-8</a>
    <a class="B">-4</a>
    <a class="B">-7</a>
    <a class="B">-12</a>
    <a class="B">-15</a>
</div>

Granted, it’s not for adblocking, but as a lazy approach to a user style with the goal of hiding the numbers in this image (the timeline of results for the training tool at lichess to experiment with how various forms of information can impact my performance.

Hello,.
on the settings tab, if the “enable advanced features” box is checked, failed to load and update in “my filters” list Anti-Adblock Killer | Reek!
Thank you for your lighting
puis-je avoir une rÊponse à ce problème ?
merci
can I have an answer to this problem?
Thank you

No. You can apply CSS styles to HTML elements only, not text nodes.

Use the logger to diagnose such issues. Select the All entry in the drop-down list in the logger page. It will show you what network requests are blocked and why.

my knowledge is very limited,
“Use the logger to diagnosis from such” how to implement this logger?
Thank you for your indulgence

Ok.

Given your symptoms, and your answer here, I can only give you these advices:

  • Un-check “I am an advanced user”, stick to using uBO as a basic content
    blocker.
    • If you really, really want to use the advanced-user features, go through the “required reading” documentation (observe that it’s required), and be sure you fully understand what you are reading.
  • If there are still issues after you un-check the advanced-user box, you can try to reset settings to factory defaults – that button is in the Settings pane in the dashboard. Be sure you backup your custom filters first, if any.

Use the wiki, it should answer most of your questions, for example, the logger. You are best served by reading through the doc, as needed.

Thanks for your advice

Hello,
I don’t know if I am in the right place to seek help and support about UBlockOrigin. I have been using it for about 2 years but never experienced this problem, though my research shows me that it is not uncommon. 3 days ago I started using Nightly browser becase Firefox dropped support of the extensions I need and use. Yesterday Nightly updated and the problem appeared, right now it updated again to version 55.0a1 (2017-04-02) (64-bit), but the problem still persists. The problem is:
UBlock Origin icon just disappeared from my toolbar and I cannot restore it neither by disabling and re-enabling extension, nor by removing and reinstalling it, nor by installing another version of it. Now version 1.11.4 installed on my Nightly. This icon does not exist in Customize menu either, so I cannot use Ublock anymore. Could you please help me where to look for the problem and how to fix this if possible? I use Windows 10.

There was a change in Nightly which broke uBlock Origin. This is fixed in the development version available on AMO: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/versions/beta.

GitHub issue: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/issues/2505.

Oh thank you, thank you! I installed this version and all is good now!

@gorhill I’d like to ask you about a potential feature addition.

uBlock Origin’s README, referencing ads as the visible portion of privacy-invading apparatus, states that “[its] main goal is to help users neutralize such privacy-invading apparatus.”

I’d like to propose – or ask, really – about the possibility of neutralizing another, *semi-*visible privacy-invading apparatus, in the form of tracking through links in Google’s search results. Right now, links redirect through Google. It’s impossible to “copy link” a clean URL, and clicking links is slow because it has to go through the redirection first.

There are several extensions that fix this and I was wondering if there was interest in uBlock Origin to have such a feature built-in. I’m only suggesting it because it seems to be aligned with uBlock Origin’s goal. However, it’s understandable if it’s beyond the scope of the project.

Thanks!

Apparently, you just need to disable this:
