Rep of the month [ROM] - process, updates and opinions

I jut wanted to share more context and also start a discussion about Rep of the month [ROM] as many said that the process is not clear, or that you do not know when to nominate nor vote.

Process:

  • Between 1st and 10th of each months reps are nominated
  • Voting open till 25th
  • Writing details - help needed from mentor
  • For may - the automation process was broken

ACTIONS:

QUESTIONS from the Reps Call:

  • Only mentors vote or all reps?
  • mentors only why ? I understant that the nomination process is limited to mentors, but I feel like the vote could be extended to all reps. What was the reason to limit the vote to mentors?
  • I am not sure anyone remember why it started like this - but it is a good feedback and we will took it into consideration.
  • Shouldn’t it be mandatory to provide descriptions of work for a nominated rep, can we make it so?
  • we have entered a bug for it to be implemented - sometimes we do add notes in a pad

I think that vote only for reps mentors is not enough because not all the mentor knows all the rep. At the same time can be a little spammy/tricky a vote without a motivation and I think that mentor need to have the last confirm to approve a rep of the month.

I don’t see why any Rep shouldn’t be able to nominate anyone.

I agree - I added that it is a good feedback - Do u know by change when we started ROM ( i was not a mentor back then) what was the motivation to keep it at mentors only?

I believe it was just a belief that mentors were closer to the day to day activities of Reps.

I don’t think nominating for ROM by the Mentors is the best way to select ROM!
Maximum times Mentor forget to follow up his mentees activities and forget when he have to do it.

I suggest to make a track record form (ex: google form) where every individual Reps can submit their monthly activities and nominate themselves at the end week of the month. And in form they should give answer why they deserves this recognition.

By this process the Reps council can easily track the nominees activities and can select the ROM.

I believe both nominating and voting should be open to all reps to be radically democratic.
