Popups launched by content scripts blocked?

I don’t know if it is intentionally a feature in Firefox, but the popup windows launched by content scripts are blocked. Chrome’s popup blocker allows popups initiated by extensions. WebExtensions team should definitely consider this.

To test, install a sample extension from this link, and try in both, Chrome and Firefox.

It’s a bug that will be fixed. I don’t know what the timeline for fixing it is, though.

A year later, is still being fixed? Any updates? I want to open an extension popup from a link in a page instead of creating a new window.
