Meta Working Group: Combination of Specializations

Hi everyone

This is part of the Meta working group. One goal there is to find out about the combination of specialization. Therefore I would like to have at least the following questions answered. Further I’m sure that I have missed a few, so please chime in and post them here :slightly_smiling:

We have proposed the following three specializations (there are also working groups for all of them):

  • Reps who provide resources to communities (ie. help plan, manage and assess budget/swag requests)
  • Reps assuming community leadership (ie. support, grow and mobilize their local communities)
  • Reps with functional specialization (ie. drive local community efforts around a specific functional area)

The questions from my side:

  • Is every combination valuable?
  • Is there any combination that we shouldn’t allow due to reasons?
  • How many Reps would consider joining a certain specialization? Maybe we can do a quick survey to find out now (of course this would change over time, but would give some insight on how the feeling is now)
  • There are probably Reps who would like to join all of them, do we need to set an upper bound to guarantee that the quality is not impacted here?

Would love to get your answers (and also questions) to these, please chime in!

Cheers,
Michael

I think that the Reps that provide resources to communities can assume community leadership because they have the skill for the leadership.
If a person can provide resources it means that he have the experience for that.

While for the functional specialization I think that they can help the community leadership to focus that on specific task and have as a mentor/reference the community leadership.

For the quantity of Reps for certain specialization I think that is based from the request for that people but for start as a proportion we are other 500 Reps so I think that 5 people for every specialization is not bad to try and see how can improve.

For the survey the Community Leadership working group is [working to a survey] (https://discourse.mozilla-community.org/t/working-group-community-leadership-track/7033/5?) for reps and I think that can be improved with that task to join the informations.

For the reps that want to join all I think that we have to evaluate every request to see the people with more skill. Because is a starting project I think that we add to start with people with improved skills.
As a number I think that 3 is enough for starting and get feedback.

Resources and leadership should be clearly separated to ensure accountability and avoid concentration of power. Inside a community the people on resources and leadership should make each other accountable.

This should be determined per track. For example the Resources track would be capped in number of Reps per city/country if needed.

For me the work “specialization” is clear, if you want to specialize in something that means you should focus on it.

I agree to that!

In theory yes. But I see a clear potential in the Resources <-> Functional and Leadership <-> Functional combinations. What do you think?
