Invitation for DinoTank workshop in Bangalore

Hello Mozillians!

I would like to invite you all to participate in the 2-day workshop
supported by Mozilla in Bangalore on Nov 19th-20th based on my DinoTank

submission: Connecting Rural Women in India. We are looking for as many
applicants as possible, so go ahead and put in your ideas.

We will cover the cost of food and drinks, but not travel or lodging, so
being a Bangalore resident is a plus here. To apply, fill out the following

Hi Mozillians!

Just to add some details here, we will select between 7 and 10 volunteers
from the applicant list. Our goal is to have a wide array of skillsets and
viewpoints, so I encourage you to apply even if you don’t think you have
anything to offer. During these two days we will be doing some
brainstorming exercises, prototype building, and user testing. It will be a
fun and intense two days, and we hope to learn a lot and make some new
friends. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to myself
or Rina Jensen (cc’ed).

Dear Mozillians,

Just a reminder, there are still slots available for this! We are also
booking rooms at The Park Hotel Bangalore [1] for all participants, and the
event will be hosted at The Center for Internet & Society [2]. We will also
be covering meals, drinks and snacks for everyone :slight_smile:

Hello again Mozillians!

Thank you everyone who has applied so far for this event. We have decided
to open up 7 additional volunteer slots, and so are extending the applicant
deadline to this weekend (Nov. 8). We are also going to cover dinner on
Friday for those who can make it. If you haven’t already applied, what are
you waiting for??

Final reminder that today is the final day to apply for our Design Thinking
workshop. Come spend the weekend with us and learn all about the Design
Thinking methodology, contribute to an important problem that will make the
world better, and get some free Mozilla swag!!! How can you pass this up???

Also, we will be doing some research the week of Nov 14th leading up to the
workshop, and we are looking for someone who speaks great English and
Kannada to help us conduct local interviews. The time commitment would be
for only a few hours during 1 or 2 evenings that week. There will be some
Mozilla swag if you can help us. Please email me directly if you are
interested.

I am not understanding how local interviews in Bangalore will helps in
"Connecting Rural Women in India"? If you need proper data on it, please
visit & interview people from rural karnataka outside Bangalore .

Yep, this is a good question and thank you for the feedback Anivar. Our
goal for the interviews will be to target young women who have moved from
rural India to Bangalore. These women will have experienced the problem
Vnisha wishes to address, but were able to overcome it somehow. We are
looking for Positive Deviation

this we will have a local research institute and a vocational school, so we
are certainly not going it alone. In the end we hope to use the insights
gained from these interviews as good source material for the weekend
workshops.

Hey,

Could you mention what is expected from the participants who are selected
for the workshop? I didn’t find any information on that in wiki and on
other threads.

It will be two all day workshops, from 9am to 5pm (see the schedule we sent
with your acceptance letter). We only expect you to be there and to give
you us your creativity and effort to help us with this problem.

Yeah, targeting women in the city who hail from a rural region will be able to better explain the situation and gaps of the problem statement.

For example, I had an interesting conversation with my cook and maid who hail from a rural area but are currently working in Bengaluru.

These people have basic literacy like they can read and speak their mother tongue, I asked my maid have you ever used the internet for any services like banking, shopping etc (she was very perplexed and didn’t understand the term internet) but when I asked her about the smartphone/computer gadgets, she was able to correlate and associated it with great photos which she took with her kids and showed it to her family back in her village from here.

That conversation made me realize the innocence with which internet has already become a part of their life.

We see a lot of people in our offices who are employed by some cleaning agencies who take care of office maintenance etc most of the women in that group are from rural areas , we can easily target this audience to get better feedbacks.

I feel that in India at least there has been great induction and promotion of these services, but there lacks an understanding of where it is coming from.

I am trying to record these conversations and create some factor buckets for the workshop.

I arrive in Bengaluru next Tues. From Tuesday - Friday we will be
conducting research very similar to what you mentioned above. It would be
great to share notes at some point about our findings. Let’s keep in touch.
