I’m writing this post to promote inside the FSA program, Mozilla Science and Mozilla the WikiToLearn project.
After the read of the manifesto of W2L and the instruction for Mozilla Web Literacy I think that this project can be promoted inside Mozilla.
Actually after 9 months of life this project showed their powerful and impact not only in Italy but in the world with many universities involved and also organizations like the CERN or KDE.
But wait what is WikiToLearn?
Good question and the answer is very easy!
A collaborative platform multilanguage for collaborative textbooks for the university students around the world.
An example: the same students can transform their notes in textbooks to help each others.

WikiToLearn does not bring new knowledge. WikiToLearn offers a new approach to knowledge: it rediscovers and proposes again the attitude of collaboration and communication among thinkers that led our civilization to take the huge steps that have brought us here today, with our endless heritage of knowledge. Without the collaboration and the communication among thinkers, without the free availability of knowledge, no big discovery would have been possible. This is what we are trying to restore. We are moved by the love for free knowledge, owned by no one and accessible to everyone. In collaboration (without any kind of remuneration), we want to make this vision possible. Open source in this context gains a profound and significant meaning, merging naturally with our philosophy. Here are the basics:
Any content can be modified. This leads to a continuous development of the existing material, to this philosophy of collaboration and communication among thinkers.
Everything on WikiToLearn is freely accessible and downloadable. In this way, knowledge is made available to everyone.
So why this post?
Mozilla works a lot in education and learning: teach.mozilla.org it is the first example, but also within the Mozilla Festival and with the FSA program we have a big growning network of university students that can help, promote and improve this project.
Now Daniele is talking, not as a university student (which I am not), but as a Mozilla Rep and involved with the Participation Team. This is a way to promote and involve the students outside the IT department (the mainly FSAs are from this) in our program and projects.
The project in few words has the technology, involvement from top-level institutions (tens of Universities and research labs such as CERN), first complete tracks and many cool ideas, but they need help in promotion and participation and the growth of local communities, a spot where we are very powerful and have much experience.
For this reason when I met Riccardo at OSCAL 2016 we talked so much about how to improve the participation and promotion in this project.
I think that a look of this project by the Participation Team or other Mozilla projects to get a support from Mozilla in promotion will be helpful for both of us.
My suggestions
As I said I talked much with the founder (and I hope to meet in person a part of the Italian team very soon to discuss, I already done a little video meeting with the Italian team) so I have written a personal document with all my suggestions to improve the website and promotion after years in experience in Mozilla and also in WordPress community so I think that I can help easily.
I hope to promote this project at the MozLondon event inside the Participation Team because I think that is perfect for us.
Our Plan in Italy
As I said we are evaluating the project for the collaboration of the Italian FSAs and suggested to the Italian team of W2L to do became FSA to be involved with their project and in other stuff of Mozilla.
Also I suggested to apply for the MOSS.
